ABOUT DANI
Hi! I’m Dani, a 33 year old business owner and mom who is honestly a little annoyed at the world for not prepping me for the rollercoaster of a journey of being an ambitious working woman with a new babe. So here I am, launching a podcast to help you (and simultaneously me) navigate this new life chapter, which is probably the biggest shift in any woman’s life.
Let’s backtrack: I started my first business with my best friend in 2013 as a passion project while I was studying political science at the University of Toronto. This side hustle quickly led me to launching my first company City MOGULS - an event that celebrated the top entrepreneurs in a fashion show for charity and went on to raise over a quarter of a million dollars for Canadian youth charities. As I grew that business (while I worked my corporate job) I had so many people say “wow, you created such a great event, do you think you could plan my upcoming event?”. So I built another company. Then in 2017 I was working at a marketing firm, and I remember thinking to myself: if I have to work for one more asshole who is incapable of mentoring me and nurturing me as a valued asset of their company, I better just go off on my own. So I left… and it was scary… but I never looked back. To be honest I think I was terrible at working for other people because I was always building my empire on the side, so I guess I’m the problem, it’s me. I took my life into my own hands and had nothing to lose. I built both event companies, with my co-founder Vic, into 6-figure businesses before the age of 28. I was doing it, I was doing the thing.
2020 shattered my world, like many of you, but I looked at it as a blessing. I was feeling so burned out from event planning. My body was exhausted from late night events and being on my feet for crazy long hours. Being at home more than ever before made me realize two things: how much I wanted to grow my family and how much I wanted to start an online business. I always knew I wanted to be a mom and the pandemic really gave me the push I needed to build my next chapter.I hadn’t put much thought into what it would be like to be pregnant and have a baby during a global pandemic AND start an entirely new business but I knew that I was going to figure it out.
After realizing how much pressure is put on our bodies as pregnant women, and during postpartum, I knew that creating a supportive house slipper that was also stylish could be an absolute game changer. I did research and development for almost 3 full years while building a slipper from scratch. I raised money on zoom calls while breastfeeding my newborn. I cried, I laughed, I pumped, I healed, and here I am today, with a brand new business launched, Mave & Chez, and I have so much to share with you about how I got here. Over the past few years, I have become obsessed with personal growth which has ultimately led me to becoming the high performer I am today. I definitely do not have it all figured out.
What I’ve learned is that when you combine a growth mindset, a positive network of support, AND investing in yourself, anything is possible. I’m excited for you to dive in with me.
